Cardiff Mind are delighted to have been awarded funding by Nationwide Building Society for a new project called Side By Side.
What Support Does This Service Offer?
Cardiff Mind provides support to help individuals to live successfully in their community. Support services are provided to individuals whose inability to maintain their tenancy is putting their access to high quality, safe accommodation at risk.
The people that we support will have experienced some degree of mental health difficulty, and may also have support needs identified around issues such as substance misuse or criminal justice convictions.
The support we provide may include some or all of the following, as well as accessing appropriate support from other agencies / organisations:
- Budgeting, maximising benefit claims, dealing with correspondence etc.
- Emotional Support and assistance in attending any health appointments
- Accessing services which may promote development of Social Skills.
- Accessing training or employment opportunities.
- Any tenancy related issues which have an impact on an individual’s housing and support needs.
- Networking and advocacy issues.
- Managing aspects of Mental Health Difficulties.
- Support to contact other Services.
Each person we work with has an individual support plan that they have agreed to, which highlights areas where support is needed. The scheme is funded for individuals for up to a year. Staff will work with individuals to equip them to manage their tenancies, to improve their mental health, and to increase their confidence in order to become fully independent.
Is There A Charge?
There is no charge to the individual for this service, as it is paid for by a grant received from Nationwide Building Society.
Criteria for Support
Individuals will have already been identified as needing tenancy support by Cardiff Council and will already have had some short-term tenancy support. Through this support it will have been recognised that individuals would benefit from a more long-term inclusive service to enable them to live more independently in the future.
