Claire W.

How would you describe your approach to counselling?

I am very relaxed. I want to know what you’re having for dinner and about your childhood experiences, probably minutes apart! I want to make a space for you to talk freely and move your perspective in order to find your own path to healing. I am mostly client led and find myself most comfortable in a style of counselling called “person centred” having said that, I also deeply care about the story of your life, how you tell it and why it matters, so I can be a bit existential at times! Who are you? Who do you want to be?

What do you think are the most important factors in the counselling relationship?

I am all about building a strong safe working environment where we can chat about what you’ve been binge watching this week, what comes up on you FYP and also the places you most want to see growth, progression and change in your life. I will support you to work through the relationships you have for better communication and health, especially in the relationship you have with yourself

Do you have any special interests or client groups that you work a lot with?

I work widely with women aged 25-35 navigating anxiety and have lots of experience with post-partum mothers. I also have a small specialism in spiritual and religious trauma, I have a Religious Studies and Theology degree and have also worked with LGBTQ+ clients navigating their spiritual beliefs which is very niche BUT, in my experience, a very needed cross over event.

What do you enjoy most about your work as a counsellor?

Working with clients who see change in their perspective and who come to sessions saying things like “I had a conversation with that person and wow counselling is really working!”

Tell us something interesting about yourself.

I love the beach and sea swimming, a good podcast, cooking and hosting a dinner party and binge of a reality series. I have a sausage dog, two children and a husband and we are currently preparing our garden for some chickens
